Independent Cup Running from 7/9 thru 7/31
Arlington, VA (July 9, 2021)—The EPSL (Eastern Premier Soccer League) is proud to announce that three of its teams will be competing in the (NISA) National Independent Soccer Association sanctioned Independent Cup. The National Independent Soccer Association tournament will start with 36 clubs playing in nine regions across the country. The three representatives of the EPSL are Lansdowne Yonkers FC, from the Metropolitan Conference, Steele Pulse FC from the Mid-Atlantic Conference and & Mass United Rush from the Northeast Conference. According to NISA most of those teams come from leagues that have forged affiliations with NISA. The Independent Cup field was expanded to include a total of 28 amateur sides this year. The event which was, introduced last year as a regionalized competition, provides independent professional and amateur clubs a platform to play together on a national stage. EPSL wishes NISA a successful tourney while looking forward for some excellent competition from our three clubs who have proven to be top notch.
Northern Virginia FC will take on Virginia United in the Mid-Atlantic conference finals.
It is to be recalled that Steel Pulse FC our Mid-Atlantic representative in the NISA was the regular season champion for the conference, however because of previous commitment to participate in the NISA tournament, the club must forgo the playoff championship game this weekend, opening the door for the two top clubs Northern Virginia FC and Virginia United to compete for the Finals.
About the Eastern Premier Soccer League
Formed in 2020, the EPSL is a 501(c) non-profit Unlike other national and regional leagues, the clubs and feeder leagues will participate in governance including the establishing of fees, prize money, and schedule to keep costs down and minimize travel. The EPSL is looking to establish agreements with other local leagues as either a promotion/relegation feeder league or through a cooperative league agreement to preserve and maintain the relevancy of elite local leagues by marketing as members of the EPSL. Through either pro/rel or this association of leagues, local leagues can collectively market themselves as entry points to higher level playing opportunities and leagues of choice for competitive amateur soccer.
In 2020 EPSL has reached historical feeder league agreements with four elite amateur soccer leagues in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League (CSL) in the New York metropolitan area, New Jersey’s Garden State Soccer League (GSSL), the New England Champions League (NECL), and the Baltimore, MD/Washington, DC based Maryland Major Soccer League (MMSL) to establish the first regional based multi-league promotion and relegation system in the United States. The CSL, GSSL, NECL, and MMSL have produced US Open Cup and National Amateur champions and have some of the top amateur teams in the United States so reaching agreements with these elite leagues is an exciting milestone in the history of US Soccer.
The EPSL is also an affiliate of the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) and EPSL clubs will earn the right to compete in the NISA Independent Cup against NISA professional clubs. EPSL clubs are also affiliated with the US Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), through their state associations and, as such, will be eligible to participate in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup qualifying rounds, the US National Amateur Cup and state and regional cup competitions.
